Abstract

35 young adults aged 20-24 years took part in the study. Among them 5 subjects were dropped out.
The baseline of the subjects were equilibrated by proving with the same toothbrushes and toothpastes at the start of the study, and by excluding the one who showed inconsistent results on first 3 weeks of equilibration period.
The control was the time when the subjects had implicated toothbrushing only.
The experimental was the time when the subjects had implicated toothbrushing with mouthrinsing.
Plaque and microorganisms need to be grown to comparable level rfor estimation, so the subjects were prohibited toothbrushing for 18 hours before estimation.
To estimate the unmber of oral S. mutans, 0.1% peptone solution gargling method was used and the samples were cultured and the rumber of cclonies was counted.
To estimate the plaque index, Quigley and Hein;s index had beed adopted.
Estimation had been done for 4 weeks first 3 weeks were the control and lasal week was the experimental, and the results had been compared.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. The number of oral S. mutans of the control was 1.80¡¿10E5 in Iml of peptone gragling solution.
2. The umber of oral S. mutans of the experimental was 1.47¡¿10E5 in l ml of peptone gragling solution.
3. There was significant difference between the control and the experimental (P<0.050.
4. The plaque index of the control was 1.423, and that of the experimental was 1.318.
